Spring super update

Things have been a bit up in the air here – not with Stitch 4 Kids, with me personally. S4K is like a freight train rolling along the tracks and nothing’s going to stop it! We have now a total of around 1,300 dresses over the last 22 months, an amazing amount and beyond my wildest dreams. You know, in the beginning I thought if I made 50 dresses I’d be happy. So, now I’m beyond happy all the way to incredulous.

Thank you for contributing to Stitch 4 Kids NZ. Every contribution, small or large, makes a difference to a child’s life.

We have had a lot of donations of fabric, keep it coming please, and some gorgeous dresses donated from women around the country. It’s so lovely when these mysterious parcels turn up out of the blue! I know we bring joy to the girls and boys who receive our dresses and shorts, however, the joy we get from creating these masterpieces is huge, fulfilling.

New Timor-Leste Ambassador to New Zealand

I’m sad to say that our friend and ambassador for Timor-Leste in New Zealand, Her Excellency (HE) Mrs Felicidade de Sousa Guterres, has reached the end of her posting here. We will miss visiting her with a load of dresses and shorts and listening in awe as she talks about her exciting life.

We look forward to working with the new ambassador, HE Mrs Idelta Rodrigues, who presented her credentials to our Governor-General HE Dame Cindy Kiro at Government House on 9 October 2024.

Personal news

I’m unhappy to report that the Multiple Myeloma (blood cancer), I have been in remission from, has relapsed with the appearance of 2 plasmacytoma in my body. I’m facing another lot of treatment, 6 rounds of chemo and 2 blasts of radiation. This has knocked myself and my family for six, we all hoped for more than 2 year’s remission. The haematologist assures me that he’ll make me better again I trust him, and I trust my body to do the work, so it’s onto the cancer carousel yet again.

Keeping S4K running

Stitch 4 Kids NZ will continue, we have a tremendous team who will carry on dresses and shorts for kids in need, and I will be there with them as much as possible. Lesley Schofield will look after the fortnightly meet-ups if I’m unable to be there, and Sharon Wolstenholme is looking after our Facebook group – keeping everyone up to date.

We still have our other ongoing projects, using up scrap making Yo-Yos which will become a quilt. We’re about to make a few Christmas dresses for Kay at Little Bundles and my lovely daughter-in-law Steph has put me onto a great project that will use up some of the tonne of flannelette we have been donated – more on that later.

In the mean time – roll on summer!
