Annie here, I have a couple of exciting things to share with you all.
Dresses for Timor-Leste
Firstly some wonderful photos sent to Jane and me by Her Excellency Felicidade Guterres of little girls in a Catholic orphanage in a sub-district called Laga, Timor-Leste, being given their new dresses. There’s 105 children in this orphanage alone.
The delight on their faces made me want to sit down and sew as many dresses as possible before October 2023. That’s when we will dispatch the next lot of dresses to the embassy in Wellington.

Partnership with Wairarapa Library Service – a new local project!
It’s very exciting to be able to tell you that Stitch 4 Kids NZ is teaming up with Wairarapa Library Service to provide Book Bags to children who sign up for their own card at any of the 4 participating Wairarapa Libraries – Carterton, Featherston, Greytown and Martinborough.
The book bags are the brainchild of Jane, when she took her idea to librarian Sylvia Arnold, she immediately saw the potential. The bags will be kept at each library ready to be handed out when the children come in to sign up and get their own card.
This project is rolling out at Martinborough library in the second half of July, we’ll let you know exact dates nearer the time.

Get involved!
So we’re still making dresses – we have 23 dresses and 4 shorts made as of last Friday, big thank you to Lesley and Helen – but we’re also making bags. If you would like to help with this project it would be great to have some happy bag making volunteers. The bags are being made from donated fabric, just like the dresses.
If you want to join us in this great local project – what could be better than encouraging children to read – then email us at stitch4kidsnz@gmail.com.
